I’m a huge lover of beauty sponges for applying makeup so I was very excited to get a Miracle Sculpting Sponge from Real Techniques in a goodie bag at Goss’s second birthday last week. In typical me fashion I couldn’t resist using it as soon as I got home and I’ve been using it for the past week. Here’s my thoughts on the makeup sponge..
Real Techniques describe the sponge as being “designed to help create shadows or highlight your favorite facial features. Use damp for a dewy glow or dry for a full coverage finish” and having “6 Surfaces to complete your sculpt”. The sponge sells for €7.99 from Boots.ie and €5.79 directly from Real Techniques (but beware you may get caught paying customs duties ordering from Real Techniques into Ireland as it comes from the U.S.).
What’s right with the Miracle Sculpting Sponge:
The sponge itself is lovely and feels like it is made from very similar material as my holy grail Beauty Blender sponges. It expands nicely when wet and doesn’t soak up too much product when using it for foundation or cream contour/highlight.
What’s wrong with the Miracle Sculpting Sponge:
To be honest I just found the shape of the sponge very awkward to work with. I only like to use the flat surface areas of the sponge which means all of the curved sides are a bit of a waste, whereas I use every square millimetre of my Beauty Blender Pro. I also found that while the sponge cleaned perfectly, using my usual brush/sponge cleaning recipe, I felt that it might tear easily when cleaning and squeezing it out as a result of it’s unusual shape.
My overall verdict:
The Miracle Sculpting Sponge won’t be replacing my Beauty Blender any time soon. BUT, the sponge material is lovely and does leave me wanting to try the Miracle Complexion Sponge from the brand again. (Off topic but I loved the Miracle Complexion Sponges when they first came out but I found that when I purchased more of them, a few months after their release, the material had changed and didn’t feel as nice? I’m hoping they’ve fixed this by now!) I’m going to get my hands on a Miracle Complexion Sponge soon and if it has the same material as the Miracle Sculpting Sponge I might finally have found a cheaper sponge to rival the Beauty Blender! I’ll keep you updated!
XO
P.S. Did anyone else ever notice the material change of the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponges?
I absolutely love it! Great article!!!

I’ve always wondered whether the Real Techniques blushes were as good as the beauty blender. Loved reading your review on it! xx
