I have a confession: I am a complete highlighter addict! Honestly, I have more highlighters/highlighting palettes than one face can handle! The latest addition to this absurd collection of mine is this beautiful palette from theBalm.
I purchased the single Mary Lou Manizer about a year ago after seeing it on pretty much every beauty blog! And I wasn’t disappointed. It quickly became my go to powder highlighter. Mary Lou is one of the more expensive highlighters I own coming in at €20.50 from most retailers in Ireland but it lasts FOREVER. I’ve only slightly hit pan after around 300 wears!
Moving on to the reason you’re reading this: the palette! Firstly, the packaging is both beautiful & practical. It’s light, seals well (to stop it opening in your makeup bag) and has a decent size mirror! The palette gives 9g’s of product for only €28 which isn’t bad considering the single highlighters which retail for €20 give 8.5g’s of product. It is more expensive by weight but it gives you the variety of highlighting shades for creating different looks!
Okay so now for the swatches & descriptions…
L to R – Mary Lou Manizer, Cindy Lou Manizer & Betty Lou Manizer.
Mary Lou Manizer – This is already a cult favourite and for good reason. It goes on really smoothly and gives a bright highlight with gold under tones. I love this on my cheekbones, cupids bow, tear ducts and brow bones (basically if I could get away with covering my whole face in this i would!).
Cindy Lou Manizer – A beautiful peachy glow. This has become my go to single cheek products for days where I’m only wearing minimal makeup. It gives both a highlight and wash of colour to the cheeks. This is the perfect ‘do-all’ cheek product for someone like me who isn’t in to intense blusher.
Betty Lou Manizer – Upon first glance at this palette I didn’t think I was going to get any wear out of this shade – thankfully I was very wrong! Usually, I only use matte bronzers but I decided to give this a go. I wore it on a night out as part of a bronzed makeup look. I put it in a 3 shape on both sides of my face and as a pop of shimmer in the center of my eyelids. And if I do say so myself, it turned out beautifully!
All of these shades are really pigmented and smooth. There’s no chunky glitter to be found here!
Final verdict: This is a gorgeous palette! It will make a brilliant Christmas gift or lovely treat for yourself. I bought mine from Debenhams but I know some online pharmacies also stock them like Meaghers Pharmacy (Check out FacesbyGrace‘s social media if you’re thinking of making a purchase here – she sometimes has discount codes and who doesn’t love a good discount?!). And for any international readers you can purchase it from theBalm’s own website, but I’m not sure what their shipping rates are like.
Please let me know if you get your hands on the palette and what your thoughts are.
